Artist Statement

From my childhood on a farm in Alberta, to the years I worked, lived, and played in the mountains of British Columbia, I have always dreamed of becoming a blacksmith.  As a self taught blacksmith, I am open to trying new things, using my imagination, and consider all of the possibilities.  Blacksmithing is rewarding work that makes me happy, and reminds me that I will never stop learning.

I use traditional forging techniques with modern methods and technologies.  I work with a fuel efficient forge and my great grandfather’s anvil.  It is important for me to have an eco-friendly shop and extra care is taken not to waste materials and to minimize my impact on the earth.  I respect the mark of the maker, and ensure that people can see and feel that each piece is handmade.  I enjoy metal’s compatibility with other mediums and like to use wood, glass, clay, and enjoy collaborating with other artists.
